Mondays Bite: Part 2

as part of a fun little meme hosted by some of my favorite blogging ladies and myself, we are rereading Twilight! because you know you didn't get enough the first time around. or the second. or the third...

anyway - Ginger asked some fabulous questions that were answered on my blog last monday. i posted the questions that are getting linked up today over at The Reading Housewives.  after you read what i have to say, you should totally link it up over at their blog!

and if you still haven't signed up for the re-read along, it's not too late. seriously, remember how fast you read this thing the first time? yeah, i won't tell anyone you read it in like 6 hours straight and didn't blink or go to the bathroom or answer the phone so you could just read and read and read. because i did it too. NO SHAME.

1. because we have to talk about it sometime - are you Team Edward or Team Jacob?  does that impact how you re-read the book?
when i read the books the first time, i was totally Team Edward. but upon rereading and after falling in LURVE with Taylor Lautner's portrayal of Jacob in the movies, if i had to pick between Edward and Jacob, i'd pick Jacob. i'm more for a life of family closeness and being able to have real babies than a life of cold and sterile and freaky aging babies.  but we all know that if i ever, EVER, get a Team ____ shirt, it will only be for Team Charlie. or maybe Team Emmett because he's a total bro. or Team Mike because good lord that boy is too adorable.

2. Bella spends a lot of her time by herself in her room when she's not at school. what do you think this says about her as a character? can you relate to her introverted nature?
according to every personality test ever, i'm half introvert and half extrovert. like, exactly half and half. so i totally understand Bella's desire to stay at home by herself and veg and do laundry. or her preference to hang out with one or two peeps instead of a large group. i think it shows that she aligns herself with several close relationships instead of being the center of a social scene. i respect that a lot. also she loves sweatpants and i love sweatpants and SWEATPANTS RULE.

3. probably my favorite chapter of the entire book, chapter eight brings us dress shopping, nearly getting assaulted, and then wraps up nicely with a quaint dinner and confession time. in this we see the blend of typical teenage existence starting to get tainted by the paranormal world. if given the choice right then, would you push to know more about the paranormal, or bury your head in the sand and live the teenage dream?
okay first of all, i was like 99.9% sure Bella was going to get sexually assaulted. i was super freaked out. i am glad she wasn't, but it certainly serves as a reminder to be careful when we're out and about. yikes.
anyway, as much as i want to say that i'd be interested in knowing about the paranormal world and being special and all that jazz - the truth is i'm too laid back and chill to deal with half of the crap Bella had to deal with to be with Edward. so if he were hinting that he were super different and potentially dangerous, yeah i'd probably back off. and call Jacob so we could make s'mores or something sweet.

smolderrrrr
4. already, it's pretty clear that Bella is falling for Edward. is this happening too quickly to be plausible, or is it totally reasonable to you? what about Edward do you find to be swoonworthy at this point?
this is a tough one for me. i'm skeptical that she could be In Love with him this quickly. i mean, it's only been a couple months tops - and that's with the weeks he's been gone...but at the same time, i remember the rush of first love. and honestly, when i reflect back on mine, it doesn't make sense either. so while i want to say that it isn't plausible and that there isn't enough to warrant that intense of an attraction so far, i can't deny it's possibility.
i swoon when he's playful and joking with Bella - which is much more present in the first five chapters than in these five chapters. in these five, we see the protective and stalker tendencies of our dear alabaster friend, which i'm not such a fan of.  also, i'm already sick of the word 'smolder'.

5. Jessica has to forcibly remove all of the details on what's going on from Bella, but through that we learn more about how she's feeling and how she's falling for Edward already. if you were in Jessica's shoes, what would you say to Bella?
as Mature Adult Lisa (i'm assuming i'm as mature as i'm going to get), i'd say that she's moving too fast and it's too weird that he just happened to be where you were and knew about it with anyone telling him and that he picked you up for school without asking etc etc etc. but if i were Awesome Teenage Lisa (ahh, the memories), i'd totally be in Jess's shoes and fall somewhere between intense jealousy and ecstatic blathering. i'd do my best to be supportive and swallow the resentment that Mr. Greek God wasn't interested in me, but i'd also be keeping my eye out that nothing was going too awry with the situation. also, i'd be on CLOUD NINE that Mike was finally interested in me. YAY MIKE with your striped rugby polos!

i love you Mike Newton!
other stray musings:
- i'm seriously creeped that Bella would let Edward take her to Seattle. you don't know him! it's too soon! even if he is giving you smoldering looks!
- i love that Bella loves sweats.
- Jacob's easy-going nature is pure win.
- Bella isn't a fan of Mike's obvious attraction and defensiveness of her, but when Edward does it she's ALL in. poor Mike.

fave passage:
"'She wants to know if we're secretly dating. And she wants to know how you feel about me,' he finally said.
'Yikes. What should I say?' I tried to keep my expression very innocent. People were passing us on their way to class, probably staring, but I was barely aware of them.
'Hmmm.' He paused to catch a stray lock of hair that was escaping the twist on my neck and wound it back into place. My heart spluttered hyperactively. 'I suppose you could say yes to the first...if you don't mind - it's easier than any other explanation.'
'I don't mind,' I said in a faint voice.
'And as for her other question...well, I'll be listenig to hear the answer to that one myself.' One side of his mouth pulled up into my favorite uneven smile. I couldn't catch my breath soon enough to respond to that remark. He turned and walked away.
'I'll see you at lunch,' he called over his shoulder. Three people walking in the door stopped to stare at me.
I hurried into class, flushed and irritated. He was such a cheater."

i'm looking forward to reading what you have to share too! be sure to link it up with Jacinda and Jasmine today!

Lisa is a gamer, crafter, fangirl, mother, wife and unabashed nerd who is pretty ridiculous and it's best you know that up front. When she's not binge watching Netflix or crafting into the wee hours of the night, you can find her spending a lot of her time on Pinterest and Twitter.

  1. I love that passage too! The where many swoon worthy passages once Edward finally lets his guard down.. I love when he says he's done trying to stay away from her...

Also, I can totally relate about the half introvert/extrovert thing because I am very much like that too. Though as I have grown up, it leans more toward introvert :)

Also its really hard to pick btw Edward and Jacob. I am team Edward because I have always been and for Bella as well they match better or at least I think so.

  6. Hahaha, I totally read it in a few hours too the first time around! And bathroom breaks? I think I actually took it in the bathroom with me (tmi?) it was seriously attached to my hand until I finished it, lol.

Liked your answers, laughed out loud at your sexual assault line. I agree I thought that situation was going to be way worse...but it just makes the Edward rescue all that much better!

    Still Team Edward ;)

  7. smolder smolder smolder smolder.....haha

I just honestly do not understand the whole Jacob-thing. To each her own, I suppose. Even in the movies with the hot-guy-with-his-shirt-off bizness, I just don't get it.

    Team Edward, FTW. 4-EVA.

  8. Oh Im rolling with the sweat pic...LOL

I love being at home in my sweats too!! Oh my gosh could you imagine had those guys held her down and attempted to assault Bella? Edward would have killed them, probably why Steph M didnt take it that far...

  10. I flew through this book the first time! I'm actually having to work really hard to take my time! The first time around, I read a large chunk of it in a bubble bath that had gone ice cold. Just couldn't stop.

  11. Sorry for the late comment...

When you put it that way, I'm Team Jacob as well! Plus, I really hate being COLD!

I mention Emmett in next weeks questions!

    <3 sweatpants!

Wanna know what I noticed, wrote down, and forget to put in the post...who keeps their toiletries in their bedroom when you're living there? I can see if you're in college or something...

  12. You make so many great points- I am kinda playing on both teams these days! I mean, looking at the book really objectively, it's a feminist's nightmare! Luckily, I can ignore things like that pretty easily (lol) seeing as how I'm also Mature Adult Lisa (hehehe).

Edward really is such a stalker and Bella can't get enough. Poor Mike! Why did he have to be such a weirdo in the book? :/

Hey you! What do you have to say?
