Mondays Bite: Part Five

well you guys, all good things must come to an end. that includes our glorious re-read along. honestly, this has been a ton of fun and i was sad to finish reading this last section of Twilight (and not just because of that awful prom scene. more on that to come.)

BUT - let us not dwell on the sadness that it's over but on the sadistic, romantic, stalker-iffic elements of the last four chapters and the epilogue of Twilight! be sure to link the questions that Jasmine of The Reading Housewives asked last week up at GReads! today for the final Mondays Bite installment.
by far the coolest picture i've found.

1. In chapter 21 James calls Bella telling her he has her mother and the
only way he won't kill her is if Bella comes alone. What would you do

in that situation? Come alone or tell Alice and Jasper?

oh please. i've seen enough Lifetime movies to know the right
answer here. TELL THEM. how on earth would James know if she told them? she could have saved herself a near death experience, crazy hospital bills, AND a cute dance studio. but no. Bella is stubborn and was convinced that she could do it By Herself. which she couldn't, fyi. we all know that IF James had Renee, he'd totally kill them both so whatevs.

2. Was everyone else as shocked as I was when I first found out about the
Alice/James situation? Do you think this adds to the story line or was
it not needed? Why do you think they choose not to include these
details in the movie?
confession - i had totally forgotten about this part. i don't think it was necessary. i wonder if Meyer's threw it in so we'd have a peek as to why Alice can't remember her past...but why that plot point needed to surface Right Then seems odd to me. i think it distracts from the high tension and focused action scene of Bella trying to survive.

3. Edward had to do something extremely difficult in order to save Bella
from becoming a vampire. Have you ever had a similar situation in your
life where you had to push your will power to its limits?
hm. well i must give Eddie props for sucking out the venom and resisting his urges to drain her completely. i mean, it does go 100% against his nature and all. i can't say that i've had to push my will power to its limits just yet...but i haven't had children yet. rumor has it childbirth is kind of a big deal, so i'll dogear this question until after my first born.

4. Bella and Edward get into the "to change Bella or not to change Bella"
argument in the hospital. If you were Bella, would you want to become
a vampire? Why or why not?

at seventeen...maybe. the idea may have appealed to me more than it does now. maybe i'm too old and boring at this point to want to be immortal. although being a rich vampire wouldn't be the worst thing in the world... but you must remember that i'm Team Jacob and would much prefer to be a werewolf. unless it meant having a litter of puppies, in which case NO THANK YOU. that image is creeping me the hell out right now...sorry about that, y'all.

5. Twilight ends with everyone going to the prom. Did you go to your prom? Was your experience similar to Bella's? Feel free to include
pictures!!

OF COURSE i went to prom. i love to dance like nobody's business. was my experience similar to Bella's? hmmm...let's see:

- alabaster Greek God as my date? nope. although he was pretty pasty.
- leg in a cast? nope.
- hating every moment of it? nope.
- in a high school gym? nope.
- elaborate curls? YES.

EXTRA: So, it's over...Final thoughts?
girl please. you KNOW i always have some final thoughts!  here we go.

quotes worth chatting about:
"You are my life. You're the only thing it would hurt me to lose." I was getting better at this. It was easy to admit how much I needed him." (Bella, 474)
- COME ON. the desperate/neediness is making ME cringe. Edward should be polishing that trophy i awarded him a few weeks ago for not running for the hills. for serious. real dudes don't like desperate. and real girls should live their life FOR THEMSELVES.
"Emmett enjoyed having me around - he thought my bizarre human reactions were hilarious...or maybe it was just the fact that I fell down a lot he found so funny." (Bella, 485)
- I LOVE EMMETT.

other stray musings:
- okay you guys, let's talk about how FREAKING CREEPY James is. not just the fact that he stalked her and threatened her life and her family etc etc. but that he wanted to RECORD her death. like, videotape a person dying. honestly, there aren't a whole lot of things in this world that creep me out more than the idea of videotaping killing someone. it's skeeving me out just typing it. just wanted you all to wallow in the pain with me.
- and speaking of pain, oh that prom scene. i think it was Meyer's way to bring it back into Forks and back into a relatively balanced state of being before concluding the novel. but it felt cheeseball to the max. because honestly, no matter who you are, if you're a girl and you look good, you know it. so this whole idea that Bella doesn't know she's looking fine at prom is a load of BULL. just saying.
- i kind of want to dig into New Moon so i can have some Team Jacob time. i didn't realize how sparse he was in this first book. but how amazingly adorable is it that he comes to her prom in a white oxford shirt and tie? TOO CUTE. love you, Jake.
- the only redeeming thing about the prom scene in the movie is the Iron & Wine song "Flightless Bird, American Mouth" that they dance in the gazebo.

i look forward to seeing what y'all have to say to wrap up this reread along! thank you for participating!

  1. Ahh I love your prom photos! The famous "stand in front of the fireplace" pic. Haha! Why did we think that was a nice back drop?!

Thank you Lisa for doing this read along with me. Your views each week have kept me laughing! I have thoroughly enjoyed reading your thoughts on the epicness of Twilight :-) You rock.

  3. Aww, I like cheeseball prom. Really, is prom ever sophisticated? All those bright colors...sequins...perhaps a little fake tanner or glitter? Nobody's seventeen year old fashion sense when it comes to a big ball gown is going to be tasteful (check out my bubble gum pink choice...that color has never been kind to me, lol)

But I do agree that Bella has to know she's looking good. I mean, between the fact that she is attractive and that Alice has spent hours doing her up. She must finally have confidence!

Finally I also thought that Alice's history reveal broke the momentum of the climax. Just not necessary there.

  4. The fact she didn't know she was being dressed up for prom--hello.

Enjoyed reading your musings...gave me a good laugh. I am thankful for the reread, because it introduced me to your blog. Look forward to following what you are thinking.

  6. Love the prom pics girl. I totally agree that Bella complains to much. I mean when I was younger I didn't like getting all dressed up and fru fru, but I was a tom boy, and that all changed when I started liking boys. I mean Alice gives her these great clothes and gets her all pretty and all she does is complain, but then she complains about being plain, I mean you can't have it both ways.
Sorry that you didn't get your Jacob fix. I love Jacob too, I love Edward more but Jacob is sweeter and very cute.

  7. I love your answers! You have such a fun way of putting it all! Great pics too...

I do think that the whole Alice part being told kind of connects Bella and Alice at a deeper level. It also gives Bella a little glimpse of hope, that maybe Edward will change her to save her from James...

  8. I couldn't agree more with your interpretation of that first quote in your "quotes worth chatting about" section. I read it and was like "Really? You almost got yourself killed to save your mother, but Edward still tops her? And Charlie? And your friends?" It made me cringe too.

  9. I have to say that I love how honest you re with your answers. You make me really think. I'm so easy to please with books that I just don't even think about the cheese or the obsession and think of it was not normal, even though it really is.

And, you are completely and utterly correct in your admonition of girls needing to live their lives for themselves. I have a niece right now that is engaged and she and her fiance are one of those that have a shared Facebook account and they eat of the same plate! *shakes head* I've had the talk with her, telling her that she can love her fiance, but she needs to still be here and live life for herself. She's too young and naive to understand what I'm telling her, and for that, I'm so sad for her.

  10. LOL @ your comment about watching Lifetime movies!!! I used to watch those all the time!

I had also forgotten how little page time Jacob got in Twilight as well. Perhaps that's why I was Team Edward while reading the series.

  11. That IS the coolest pic you've found!

I wish we would have had a FRUIT tree! Lucky...

And commenting on the comment above...I HATE that shared Facebook account stuff! This one couple on Facebook that has the shared account, she always calls her husband her Prince and I want to gag...that sounds horrible, but that's how I feel lol!

  12. James totally looks sunburned in the above "coolest picture I've found" picture. Which is really bizarre since he isn't even real in that shot.

You're so funny. Thanks a million for helping host this read along thingamabob. It's been super duper fun.
