here's a look at two books i have sitting in my To Be Read pile. i don't necessarily own these books, but they are books i intend to get around to reading soon!
The Freak Observer is rich in family drama, theoretical physics, and an unusual, tough young woman Loa Lindgren. When her younger sister dies, 16-year-old Loa's clockwork galaxy collapses. As she spins off on her own, Loa's mind ambushes her with vivid nightmares and sadistic flashbacks a textbook case of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. But there are no textbook fixes for Loa's short-circuiting brain. If she keeps her eyes open and her neurons busy, there's less chance for her imagination to brew up nightmares and panic attacks. Maybe then she'll be able to pry her world from the clutches of death. The Freak Observer is a startling debut about death, life, astrophysics, and finding beauty in chaos. [summary from Goodreads]
why it's on my tbr: family drama + potential for unreliable narrator + winner of the William C Morris award = YES PLEASE.
Prince Aleksander, would-be heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne, is on the run. His own people have turned on him. His title is worthless. All he has is a battletorn war machine and a loyal crew of men.
With World War I brewing, Alek and Deryn's paths cross in the most unexpected way…taking them on a fantastical, around-the-world adventure that will change both their lives forever.
why it's on my tbr: this is literally on my To Read shelf at home, so that's always a bit of incentive. but also, i adore Scott Westerfeld's Uglies series and i need a bit more steampunk in my life.
what books are you looking forward to reading?
Scott Westerfeld is the reason I began to read YA. That is all.
ReplyDeleteAlso, that series has wicked awesome covers.

I've been meaning to read something by Scott Westerfield forever! I've heard that series is really good!
ReplyDeleteAlso, The Freak Observer sounds so strange but really, really intriguing! Plus, the cover is so hardcore. People would take me seriously with that book around. :)
