Thanksgiving: Craft Edition
I know, I know. By now y'all are sick of all of the Thanksgiving leftovers and you're SO READY to decorate for Christmas and listen to Jingle Bell Rock at obnoxiously loud volumes!
But first, let me show you this!
Wear It Wednesday: Ugly Sweater Edition (3)

I SWEAR TO YOU the only thing cooler than this sweater is that TeeFury nailed it by calling it "The Sweater That Lived"
Guh.

Any craft nerds out there?
So here's the deal. In addition to being an avid reader and gamer, I've kinda got a sweet spot for crafting too. I KNOW. There aren't enough hours in the day, y'all.
Since Bookish Broads is my home for book reviews and stuff now, that leaves Lisa is Busy Nerding open to interpretation. I'll still throw stuff out there like my thoughts on movies and TV shows and video games and other random stuff I find that I think is cool, but I'd also like to expand a bit and include some crafty things from time to time. I hope you're down with that sort of thing!
Anyway, I have been given a couple HUGE opportunities that I'd like to start sharing with you! The first is that my mother-in-law LOVES to foster my creative outlet with cardmaking stuff (hellooooo free things!) and I've also got a Cricut Explore at home that I use all the time and I just want to share that stuff with someone who CARES and not just my husband who's like "oh that's nice." I mean I get that Andrew's not going to be all "Lisa, you NAILED IT with that color combination" but I want someone to say that, you know? Sure you do.
Long story short, I'm gonna start doing crafty things on here. If you have requests/ideas/suggestions/want to get your craft nerd on with me. HOLLA!

IN REPUBLIC CITY
We see that Prince Wu continues to be a Bidoof. For reasons I can't understand, the world leaders don't seem to address the Prince's total lack of interest and knowledge of how to be the Earth King. They are equally unworried about Kuvira and think she'll just hand over total control...SO either the President of the Earth Kingdom is a corrupt bad guy or a total dumbass. Either way, Mako is still chained to Wu's side and not quite sure what to do about it so he's doing nothing which is VERY un-Mako.
Bolin and Eska reunited at the Republic City hotel! The least awkward part of the whole encounter was that Desna sleeps in the bathtub. It's awesome. Equally awesome was Bolin & Makos reunion! Adorbs.

source: keindahaha.blogspot.com
Baatar and Suyin are reuinted and it's not adorable. In fact, Baatar is a pretentious asshole and Suyin is having NONE OF IT. #respect
We also have a not so subtle hint about what's coming when Kuvira tells Prince Wu that she took his Presidential Suite from him. WE GET IT. Long story short, Prince Wu has a massively disappointing coronation ceremony and Kuvira is honored. She takes that opportunity to essentially declare herself the dictator of the Earth Empire and the world leaders are somehow shocked by this but the audience applauds so I guess they're on board.
Bolin is understandably worried, but Kuvira soothes him and Bolin needs to be needed so he sticks around. PLUS as he puts it to Mako later, it's not like King Wu is making a good run at the gig. Suyin is also worried and tells Kuvira to step down because HELLO SHE IS A DICTATOR but she doesn't and then she threatens Suyin and I'm sure we all know how well that's gonna go. Kuvira also has Varek working on some super secret technology involving spirit roots and I'm massively curious.
TOPH + KORRA

source: bamsmackpow.com
Toph is trying to help Korra get her mojo back but not without a heavy dose of crotchety surliness that we all adore. She tries to talk some sense into Korra by reminding her that the world keep spinning without it and to get over herself. Bad things happen no matter what, you know?
Toph proceeds to kick Korra's ass all over the place in the swamp, which we discover keeps her rooted (har har har) to the rest of the world. She continues to be extremely, totally, incandescently Toph. She is everything. She even tells Korra she still has metal in her body and drops some serious knowledge on WHY Korra has such a hard time getting over all of the things.
I cannot WAIT for Tenzin's kids to find Korra in that swamp, which should be in no time considering Jinora's connection to the spirit world.

CLOSING THOUGHTS
- WHAT is Varek making that's so important? Why would he need to harness the power of the Spirit World?
- Will Toph sense a disturbance in the Spirit World root system?
- Why would we see Eska again? Are she and Bolin going to have an epic romantic reunion of sorts?
- What will Mako decide to do?
- WHERE IS IHRO. Either of them, really.
- Why wasn't the Fire Nation at the coronation?
Wear it Wednesday: To Endor! (1)
New blog vision. New feature. It's a thing!
I'll find something gloriously geek chic to wear on Wednesdays and share it with you.
BOOM.
AN EWOK SHIRT.
I can't even.
The Walking Dead gave me an ulcer.
If you do NOT watch The Walking Dead, I suggest you catch up on Netflix. Bear in mind not all seasons/episodes are created equal. (looking at you all those episodes at Hershel's farm...)
And finally, if you did NOT watch the Season 5 premiere, you probably should do that before you read on because there will be spoilers.
Alright, ON TO THE GOOD STUFF.
Allow me to rank the 5 best moments of The Walking Dead Season 5 Premiere Episode: No Sanctuary
5. Rick has his mojo back.
This is my favorite Rick. The one that is teetering precariously on the edge of right and wrong and is just SO FED UP with how terrible people are that he's becoming terrible too. I am the one egging him on from my couch. Thankfully he has Glenn to reign him in a bit when he loses himself.
4. The Slaughterhouse Scene
Before you think I'm some maniac with a psychological disorder for claiming this as one of my favorite moments of the premiere, let me explain!
This is huge because it shows how people have adapted to survive. I believe I yelled to my husband (through closed fingers around my eyes and face) THIS IS WHY I WANT TO DIE IN AN APOCALYPSE because there is NO WAY I am prepared to handle any of these situations at all.
The precision with how they kill the prisoners is haunting. The sterile environment gave me chills. The disassociation they have from "cattle" is beyond disturbing. And it was all done so, so well.
3. The reunion!

The group is together! No more split scenes of where people are and what they're doing! Although, I feel like the show really got its groove back when they split up after leaving the prison the last time, I'm hopeful that the group dynamics will lend itself to some excellent plots and not just wondering around forever talking about what they're going to do.
2. The Grimes Family Reunion!

SO. MANY. EFFING. TEARS. YOU. GUYS.
1. CAROL.

I am so completely on board with Carol's development throughout the series. I feel like where other's have waffled and not been clear to me, Carol is the shining point. She makes hard decisions. Sometimes they're right. Sometimes they're not. For a woman who's lost a lot, she has a crazy focus on survival and views the group as her family and it is just so empowering to behold. She doesn't rely on the men of the group to make the decisions because they are MEN. She doesn't insist on getting her way because she's a WOMAN. She is a valuable member of the group and deserves every shred of respect she has.
And the questions I have:
HOW DID CAROL BECOME CLEAN? Did she shower at Terminus? I find this unlikely.
We don't think that Tyreese killed that guy, do we? I don't. I mean for a show that shows ALL THE GORE ALL THE TIME, what's one more dead body? Suspicious, I am.
Do we honestly believe Billy Ray Cyrus has a plan to save the world?
What is Ginger Man keeping secret from everyone else?
Why would they show the original Terminus issues at the very end? What plot points will they provide?
ARE THEY GOING TO GO AND FIND BETH NOW?! I am very worried.
What did you think about the premiere?
What are you looking forward to about this season?
How many times did you cry/wince/fist pump/dry heave during the premiere?
Legend of Korra Recap: Book 4 Chapter 1
MORE KORRA YOU GUYS MORE KORRAAAAA
Ahem.
BOOK 4: CHAPTER 1 - After All These Years
First off, it is 3 years since we last saw Team Avatar. If you remember, Korra stopped a FLYING AIRBENDER to a huge personal cost to her health and we last saw her emotionally, physically, and mentally broken. We get a quick little heads up that Air Temple Island is alive and thriving, there is a park dedicated to Avatar Korra in Republic City, and there's a section where the spirit world and the living world coexist peacefully. Yay!
But...where is Korra?

YOU LOOKIN GOOD, ASAMI. All the snaps for Korra + Asami's friendship |
Not everyone is on board with Prince Wu taking the throne though. Turns out there's bandits roaming and pillaging the Earth Kingdom after the upheaval of the entire society. 3 years in turmoil have been hard on the Earth Kingdom, you guys. Which brings us to what the rest of Team Avatar is up to!
But...where is Korra?

But...where is Korra?
Tenzin and crew (including a remarkably awesome Meelo scene) are ready to welcome Korra back after her recovery. But only her dad steps off the boat from the Southern Water Tribe. WHERE IS KORRA.
She's in some underground bending league getting her face beat up and pretending not to be the Avatar. THAT'S WHERE. Oh Korra. Let us help you, help you.

Oh Korra. I believe in you! Source: Recentlyheard.com |
I'm a big fan of the book being called Balance because it seems to be referring to Korra herself. The world at large seems to be doing okay so far, which I presume means Korra feels she isn't needed. BUT SHE IS. But she also has to get her shit straight first, you know? It's like how you can't be in a healthy relationship until you are healthy by yourself. That's what we've got going on here. I'm on to you, writers, and I like it very much.
I love that the writers don't shy away from serious social issues and even leave it gray it enough for us to grapple with. Obviously, we want to tell the Governor of the Earth Kingdom states just to sign Kuvira's contract so his people can eat but HE KNOWS HOW THIS WORKS. Earth Kingdom dealt with some heavy shit for a very long time. He wants something more. But something more isn't coming without the help of the Avatar. My heart just broke when he finally relents to Kuvira and says "Did I ever really have a choice?" Oh my sweet, sweet Governor. You will have a choice. I promise you this.
I also love that we didn't see Korra for the first 3/4 of the episode and it was TOTALLY LEGIT. The show has grown beyond Korra and all of the characters are so solid and each have their own role to play in Balance. My heart is just exploding with the feels, y'all.
But honestly could we have Korra + Ihro be a thing because that's really what I'm waiting for. I ship them SO HARD even though they only met once. I suppose I'd better start my letter writing campaign just to make sure...
