Gaby and I are basically meant to be together forever as Epic Recs partners because we are the SAME when it comes to books. Which is pretty fantastic because she's been pushing books I wouldn't have read otherwise, or is good at pushing wonderful books up my existing TBR, as is the case with THE RAVEN BOYS.

Blue is the daughter of a psychic, but isn't one herself. She amplifies psychic energy, which is pretty cool. She's the marches to the beat of her own drum kinda girl and swears to never, ever, ever date a Raven boy. Especially since the only premonition she's ever heard about herself involves killing her first kiss.

Gansey, Adam, Ronan and Noah are Raven boys (an they all attend an academy where the mascot is a Raven) searching for the ley line to awaken an ancient, slumbering king.

Obviously, Blue meets the Raven Boys and things happen.

Oh yes, there be swoons! But they are of the signature Maggie Stiefvater slowburn variety.

Blue is drawn to Gansey in a way she can't explain, but Adam is the one who shows interest in her...and she in him.

Henrietta, Virginia. Lush, green landscapes and loads of forests.

Also, BOARDING SCHOOL. Full of privileged boys but still.

Also also the Raven boys we know live in an abandoned warehouse which is pretty rad.

OH GOOD GRIEF YES this book has the most sneakiness of all sneakiness! There's all sorts of secret keeping and hidden agendas and it makes for a rich mystery on top of the urban paranormal vibe.

Where most urban paranormal YA with a girl named Blue and 4 boys searching for a ley line would be bubbly, perhaps even silly, Stiefvater crafts this tale as legit and you absolutely believe each one of these characters is real, that their quest is real, and nothing is hokey about this in the slightest. In short, pretty much all of THE RAVEN BOYS is serious stuff.

Which Raven Boy? - I have a thing for the broken boy, so I'd have to go with Adam. Plus his accent sounds like it would be AMAZING.
If you had a psychic power, what would it be? - At first I was like "Oh definitely the one where you can touch an object and figure out it's meaning" and then I immediately realized how creepy/awful that could turn...so I'll opt for Blue's ability to amplify. You're like the girl everyone wants around! Without doing any of the hard work! Done.
What was your favorite scene in the book? - Because I think Maggie writes such a heavy narrative that's so rich and detailed and beautiful, I love little breaks in that for the lighter more contemporary feeling scenes. The one in particular I liked the best was when Gansey approaches Blue in the diner on Adam's behalf. Good times.

I'm not even surprised anymore that Gaby knows me so well. Epic Recs is TOTALLY our thing. Although I am a bit nervous to see how she liked A MONSTER CALLS so you should go over to her blog and see if it was an Epic Rec or not!

Lisa is a gamer, crafter, fangirl, mother, wife and unabashed nerd who is pretty ridiculous and it's best you know that up front. When she's not binge watching Netflix or crafting into the wee hours of the night, you can find her spending a lot of her time on Pinterest and Twitter.

  1. I still really need to read The Raven Boys -- I have both an audiobook and an ARC, so there's really no excuse not to read it at this point. ALSO YOU LOVED IT AND THAT IS REASON ENOUGH <3

  3. If you think this book is sneaky, wait until The Dream Thieves! I would definitely have picked Adam at the end of TRB, but in TDT he does some stuff that I do NOT approve of, and Gansey knocked him off the top of my list.

I'm so glad you loved this one. EPIC INDEED. How are you two so good at reccing?

  4. I just love Maggie Stiefvater and her books. The Raven Boys is an incredible book, but The Dream Thieves (the sequel) is even better! Glad this Epic Rec worked out for you. (I love all the Raven Boys, by the way. They're an awesome bunch.)

  5. Ah! Now I want to re-read this book! I was already planning to at some point because I feel like I need that refresher before The Dream Thieves and then I just think wellll why not wait til closer to book three's release? And then, you know, it ends up getting put off. BUT this one was so good & you reminded me of that fact!

Seriously, you and Gaby are like winning at Epic Recs.
