It's finally Annith's turn to get sent out from the convent...but the abbess still refuses to send her. Determined to serve Mortain and figure out what on earth is going on, Annith bails on her duties and discovers what she's really made of, the darkest secrets of the convent, and the bittersweet bliss of falling in love.

I'm honestly tempted to just write "I LOVE THIS BOOK AND SO SHOULD YOU" for the next 500 words because that's about as coherent as I can be when it comes to my feelings for this book and this series and the epicness that Robin has created!

But if I MUST try and be coherent...

MORTAL HEART is a bit slow to start because we still have to meet Annith and get to know who she is within the fabric of the greater story before the ball can really get rolling. Believe me - the character development and plot development is totally worth it. When things get real - THEY GET REAL. The realest of the real. The feelest of the feels.

Annith uncovers some unseemly secrets about the convent she calls home. She falls in love with a dark, brooding boy named Balthazar. She realizes that Ismae and Sybella are beautiful, strong, independent women and so is she. I don't think I've ever fist pumped so much as I have when reading this book (let alone this series!)

I know it's not totally fair to lump in my thoughts on the series as a whole within this review, but it's my blog and I do what I want.

This series is THE SERIES for fantasy and historical fiction fans. The HIS FAIR ASSASSINS book series celebrates the strength of women, the courage of following our faith and hearts, as well as the beauty of friendship and loving relationships all within a crazy awesome castle intrigue plot set in feudal France. In short, THIS IS THE BEST, Y'ALL.

Rereading. Again and again and again. FOREVER.

And also, I need to give a shout out to Robin LaFevers for responding to my fangirling on Twitter with poise and grace. I love your writing. Please don't stop ever. Thank you bye.

Lisa is a gamer, crafter, fangirl, mother, wife and unabashed nerd who is pretty ridiculous and it's best you know that up front. When she's not binge watching Netflix or crafting into the wee hours of the night, you can find her spending a lot of her time on Pinterest and Twitter.

  3. I love, love, love the His Fair Assassin series! So glad you recommended it to Gaby earlier this year, which is what reminded me that I needed to read it. And I binge read the first two, and immediately read Mortal Heart upon picking it up at BEA! It's seriously fantastic, and I love all the characters so very much <3

  4. YESSSSSSSS. I haven't formed coherent thoughts into actual sentences yet for my review. Perhaps I'll just say, "What Lisa said!" and leave it at that ;) But seriously, REREADING.
